What is a snippet?

Snippet is a programming term for a small piece of code which has a certain function. For example, Google uses snippets to provide statistical data about your website through Google Analytics.

What is the function of smartAD snippet?

smartAD snippet has 2 functions:

  1. Letting smartAD ad server know that a web visitor is visiting your website.
  2. Showing banner(s) to the web visitor if the ad server says so.

Does smartAD snippet make my website slower?

No. Because:

  1. smartAD snippet works asynchronously, which means that website content does not have to wait till the snippet has been loaded.
  2. smartAD snippet connects to ad server only after website content has been loaded.

Where to place smartAD snippet?

The general answer to this question is that you should put smartAD snippet anywhere to head tag (between <head> and </head>). But it also fully works anywhere in body tag (between <body> and  </body>).

NB! Putting the smartAD snippet to head or body tag will guarantee you that you get full info about your ad space(s) and website evolution profile.

  • When you create standard banner position for smartAD you should put smartAD snippet to exact position where you want the banner appear because with standard banners smartAD ad server cannot decide itself where to place the banner (like it can do with overlay type of banners).
  • When your website has lot of traffic and you have made specific subsections to your website (for example different languages or different activities or different issues) then you might want to create more than one ad space to smartAD because it allows us to sell your website in better value. If this is the case you should place smartAD snippet(s) the way they range only the subsection they are meant to range.

How to place smartAD snippet?

Basically, there are 3 options how to place smartAD snippet into your website’s code:

  1. You do it through your website content management system (CMS). That means that you have to add smartAD snippet to your website template.
  2. You can also change your website template directly in file through FTP.
  3. If those 2 methods do not work for you then you need to ask help from your website technical support or website creator.

How can I check whether I have placed the smartAD snippet successfully?

Just follow these 3 steps to verify that code is implemented in HTML:

  1. Go to your website.
  2. Open the function toolbar by clicking the right-side mouse button and choose function “View page source”.
  3. Search for “bepolite.eu”

Bepolite.eu is always inside smartAD snippets and this is the best way to recognize smartAD snippets.

After that log into smartAD system and look in website statistics if impressions come through.

What if I cooperate with more than one ad network?

It is of course your decision how to resolve that situation, but we recommend that you put smartAD snippet just the way it is advised above and you use smartAD ad server callback functionality.

What is callback functionality?

Callback functionality allows our ad server to activate the other snippet (which you have to send us) if we do not have a banner to show. This solution will guarantee that you can enjoy all the advantages that the smartAD evolution profile has to offer.
